Make Your Voice Heard
Music Is Fun & Memorable
18 Jul 2007

What instrument do we all have from the moment we are born?

The human voice; it is the most precious instrument. Voices have pitch and can sound happy or sad. They can sound loud or soft, make melodies and rhythm. No two voices are alike. Singing voices can touch our feelings with beautiful sounds and words. Think of all the times when we sing; we sing to celebrate birthdays, school plays, summer camp, sports teams, in church, in the shower, religious and other festivals and special ceremonies. Babies and small children learn from nursery rhymes and counting songs and love ‘made-up’ songs. No age is too soon to find the music within.

Singing together makes people feel as though they belong. Most peoples of the world have their own songs. These songs tell stories about their history and help to keep their traditions alive.

Music is everywhere. Sound tracks fill movies and TV shows and set the stage for fun, suspense or drama. Certain songs come on the radio when driving, that strike a memory in your life. Music permeates the air while shopping in stores giving buyers a good feeling. Spas certainly take advantage making their clients feel relaxed with soft soothing music. Humming a lullaby to a baby gives them a safe secure feeling to sleep. Without music in any form or genre, the world would be a silent tomb.

There is an opportunity for everyone to learn and enjoy making music with a wide variety of appropriate quality instruments and music materials. For the aspiring singer, find a good teacher who can train you in diction, phrasing, breathing and finding your own style. The more you sing, the more confidence you gain to sing in front of people, if that is your wish. There are also many instruction videos and CD’s as well as beginners material at the local library. Practice, practice is the key. Record yourself and also get reviews from family and friends as to how you sound.

Music spans the world from the ethnic percussion and chants of Africa and Jamaica to the Bluegrass pickin’ and singing of the South, from the stage of a city orchestra to the stage of a country honky-tonk.

Find your stage and stick to it. I did, and I’ve never been happier.
