ATTitudes
31 May 2007

Imagine working in one of the departments of a large computer company and wondering if there were any musicians among the office workers, electronics technicians and computer geeks. I'd been with this company for 10 years already and there never seemed to be any live music at the big Sales & Promotional shindigs. So I set out to find a company band.  AT&T had just purchased our company so a new system was put in place. I felt it was time to find any hidden talent within the confines of several buildings and floors containing computer equipment.  I made up flyers and put them in mailboxes and waited. Within a few days two saxophone players imerged, one drummer, one keyboardist, one guitarist, a terrific male singer and myself, the only female in the group. What a nice surprise to have some key musicians in our midst. A few phone calls later, a decision was made to gather together after work hours in a large company boardroom bringing all our instruments and sound equipment. Later, we'd use the spacious cafeteria. The next decision was to determine what kind of music to play. So, as a group, we set out to write down a list of all the songs we knew and narrow it down to a 'set' performance.

As time went on and practice twice a week, we began to sound very professional. We sure had fun doing this and knew we needed to advertise our band for the up and coming Sales Convention to be held in a large open-air tent on the company grounds. We also needed a name. Since our new ownership was AT&T I thought the ATTitudes sounded good, it was agreed upon.

On convention day, we hooked up our speakers, microphones and equipment on the spacious stage and announced our new band. I think everyone in the audience was surprised at our terrific sound and music selection; a combination of slow and fast songs that everybody recognized.  We were a hit that day and many promotionals after that.  Since then, the company has been sold and is no longer there.  I miss those days.

My decision to sell quality instruments came from that experience so I hope you'll take a look at my website.
